At Norton Manufacturing Company, we pride ourselves in our employees.  Our staff of well-trained, flexible individuals is one of the attributes that sets us apart from other manufacturing companies.  The personnel at Norton do not adhere to an 8 to 5 schedule, but rather work until a task is completed, and completed on time.  Our engineering staff works very closely with the customer to ensure that customer expectations are met and exceeded.  Norton employees also have the opportunity to participate in many different learning programs.  These programs include classes toward an associate or bachelor degree, or just individual classes, with tuition assistance provided by Norton. Apprenticeships in toolmaking, machine repair, and electrician are available; and the National Skill Standards in Metalworking.

Norton Manufacturing Company underlined its commitment to its employees when it took a leadership role in National Metalworking Skill Standards certification. Norton Manufacturing Company was the first company in the United States to credential employees for the National Skills Standards in Metalworking. The program trained, tested, and certified the first eight employees beginning in January 1995 in conjunction with the Council of Great Lakes Governors, the Ohio Department of Development, and the National Tooling and Machine Association.  Governor George Voinovich visited Norton’s South Union plant to personally present the eight employees with their credentials.  Since that time, many employees have gone through the training program.  President Rick Norton says that now “we can raise everyone’s skill level – grow our own talent.  This project lets us train everyone, not just skilled tradespeople.”  This project also saves time and money.  New skills development, equipment, and technology advancement are just some of the things that Norton can spend more time and money on because they have a well-trained staff.  A higher quality product is another result of Norton’s commitment to its employees.  “We can’t compete without well-trained, dedicated employees,” said Mr. Norton.
