50th Anniversary

Norton Manufacturing is a family-owned company located in Fostoria, a small Northwest Ohio community. Norton consists of two manufacturing facilities and one corporate office all within minutes of each other. It is about two hours from Detroit or Cleveland and close to major shipping routes. This location furnishes Norton with an excellent source of independent skilled employees. The pride the employees take in their work is reflected in the exceptional quality of the finished product.

H. W. Norton purchases a three-man tool and die company 

Richard W. Norton, Sr. joins his father’s company 

A 6,000 sq. ft. building is erected on Jones Road 

A 4,000 sq. ft. addition is joined to the original building 
Richard Norton, Jr. joins the company after completing college

The purchase of an N. C. Lathe puts the company into the production machining business

Norton has added several more N. C. and CNC machines and has a workforce of about 40 employees 
Norton receives its first machining contract for crankshafts from Cummins Engine

Norton begins machining prototype crankshafts for Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler 
Two more additions and a warehouse are added to the plant, increasing the Floor space to 40,000 sq. ft. 

The Company receives its first production order from Chrysler for the 2.2L Four Cylinder Turbo II Engine

A 27,000 sq. ft. plant on Route 12 is constructed

Ford awards Norton the 3.8L, V-6 crankshaft for the Thunderbird Super Coupe 

Chrysler awards Norton contracts for the V-10 Viper and V-10 Ram pick-up crankshafts The Route 12 plant is doubled in size to 54,000 sq. ft. 

The current 22,000 sq. ft. corporate office is purchased 

The 100,000 sq. ft. plant on South Union Street is purchased Norton begins induction hardening of crankshafts 
The 5.2L V-8 Chrysler crankshaft and the 7.3L V-8 Navistar crankshaft are awarded to Norton 

Lycoming Engine awards Norton a contract to produce all of their crankshafts for aviation engines
Arvin Meritor presents Norton with a contract to produce class 8 truck steering knuckles

Norton receives QS 9000 and ISO 9001 certification A major machine refurbishment and tooling project for a large industrial company from India

AM General awards Norton a contract for the 6.5L diesel crankshaft, used in the Hummer for both military and civilian applications 
General Motors gives Norton the contract for partial machining of L18 crankshaft

Norton celebrates its 50 year anniversary with a Crankshaft Extravaganza A 40,000 sq. ft Fremont building is acquired for a warehouse and possible industrial expansion 
Adcole crankshaft testing equipment is upgraded
